Valletta and Van Gogh

Dear Client

Another commission for you today. Valletta, oil on canvas 40x80cm.
I used only, Blue, purple and Naples yellow. plus white. The client
wanted a memory of Malta to take home with him.

I’ve been studying Van Gogh’s work again, mainly because of his use of colour. However, I came across
an interesting fact. He wasn’t poor and struggling. Especially for an artist who reputedly only sold one painting during his life.
He painted approximately 900 paintings in ten years.
Now today the cost in high quality canvas and paint for 900 works would be about 50 euros each, hence about 45,000 euros.
So he spent about 4.5k a year in materials. Or perhaps he bought in bulk 🙂

I produce about one painting a week, so 52 or so a year, and have for the last 4 years.
Here is some pictures of my exhibition at ideacasa in Msida. It’s on now and will run for at least another month.
Then in June I have an exhibition at the Palace Hotel.

That’s all, thanks for your time
All the best
Cheers Mike

PS, he didn’t cut off his ear. He cut a small portion of his ear lobe.
